A prominent trend in today’s music consumption is streaming, a phenomenon that gained even more importance during the pandemic, impacting the dance music industry significantly. While festivals still thrive with their EDM-centric, visually spectacular shows, club venues have suffered, leading to the closure of the Billboard Dance Club chart due to reduced DJ feedback from large venues. Even in major cities, where nightlife is concentrated, this shift has resulted in a decrease in the volume of new dance music releases. At Party Favorz, we've felt this reduction since last year. With less music comes fewer standout hits, and many of today’s hits often sample popular tracks from 10 to 20 years ago, repurposing these melodies into new creations. However, the silver lining in fewer releases is that it allows gems like "Water" by Tyla, "Body Moving" by Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris, and Peggy Gou’s hit "(It Goes Like) Nanana" to shine, reaching a broader audience. In a different era, these tracks might have been overshadowed by a flood of new music. Exploring other dance music genres, artists have reinvigorated styles like Drum 'n' Bass. While not our personal favorite, especially in a full DJ set, it has its place. Becky Hill's "Disconnect" is so Punk Rock that the D'n'B production by Chase & Status was a natural fit for the song. Issey Cross’s "Bittersweet Goodbye" is another significant Drum 'n' Bass track, infusing the genre's energy with orchestral elements borrowed from the Verge alternative classic "Bittersweet Symphony," which got them in hot water for borrowing the string section from the Rolling Stones "The Last Time." Despite its potential, this genre can be challenging for DJs without advanced equipment to blend with contemporary dance music. Still, Drum 'n' Bass is seeing a small rebirth when we were hoping for a Breaks resurgence in mainstream dance which has shown a lot of promise lately. We'll have to wait and see what 2024 brings. Latin House has also seen a rise in popularity. Jain’s "Makeba" classic emerged as a major hit this year with the Ian Aisher remix and reminiscent of the "Macarena" with its catchy refrain. We selected Axel Paerel’s version for this set, focusing on the instrumental part that really gets people moving. This approach is similar to the initial instrumental version of "Macarena," which later had lyrics added for broader appeal. Other Latin-influenced hits include "Marianela" by Merk & Kremont x Hugel vs. Lirico En La Casa and "Let's Go" by will.i.am and J Balvin.

This ambitious endeavor involved a deep dive into our 2023 Club Fusion and Peak Hour releases to compile the most impactful dance anthems that left their mark on the dance floor and resonated as unforgettable earworms. Our selection process focused on streaming numbers from platforms like YouTube and Spotify, complemented by our own personal bias. We've bypassed conventional charts like Billboard, seeking out the true gems that define the year's dance music zeitgeist, far from the repetitive playlists of mainstream charts. Celebrating Variety: The Standout Dance Anthems of 2023 The landscape of 2023's dance music was marked by an exhilarating variety. While many tracks echo the timeless allure of House Music, this year's biggest dance hits have ingeniously woven elements from classic dance anthems into fresh, vibrant creations. This blend of homage and innovation has injected a rich diversity into today's dance music scene, moving beyond monolithic trends. 2023's Dance Music Evolution: From House Roots to 'Jump House' Innovation One standout trend we've christened at Party Favorz is "Jump House," a thrilling evolution in dance music tempo, breaking the 130 BPM ceiling and soaring towards 145 BPM (and sometimes higher). Volume 1 of our Top Dance Songs of 2023 features these high-energy tracks, including hits like cassö, Raye & D-Block Europe's massive "Prada" (142 BPM), a Techno reworking of the Rihanna classic "Disturbia" (141 BPM), Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding's "Miracle" (143 BPM), "Desire" by Calvin Harris & Sam Smith (140 BPM), "When We Were Young (The Logical Song)" by David Guetta & Kim Petras (140 BPM), and many others. These tracks blend pulsating beats with a nod to early millennium Trance, Techno, and House reminiscent of the Hard Dance era of the 2000s. Yet, this surge in BPM doesn't overshadow the enduring appeal of Future House and classic House Music. Tracks like John Summit & Hayla's "Where You Are" and Peggy Gou's "(It Goes Like) Nanana" have dominated the scene, proving that the heart of dance music still beats strong in its foundational genres. At Party Favorz, we've long championed diversity in dance music, advocating against a homogenized sound. Thankfully, 2023 has been a year of rich musical diversity, breaking away from the generic soundscapes that often dominate mainstream platforms. While 2022 hasn't been a standout year for club music, there were still some incredible songs that deserve recognition. However, it's worth noting that many new releases seem to be dominated by a select group of artists, resulting in a familiar and somewhat stale style. This repetitive approach, often dark and somewhat depressing, has left the industry craving originality. Regardless, these two volume reprsent the best dance songs of the year for 2022. Unfortunately, new releases have been scarce, and breakout hits even rarer. Typically, we witness at least three massive hits that carry over into the following year, but this time, they are noticeably absent. Even the revival of NuDisco has become tiresome, as repetitive beats with different lyrics no longer captivate audiences. Disco, once a diverse and vibrant genre, is not accurately represented in today's music landscape. The industry lacks the juice and originality that made it so thrilling, even when sampling older songs. Will 2023 be the year that Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Rihanna, accompanied by their tours, breathe life into this stale industry? While their tours are sure to be a success, their impact on the dance floor remains uncertain. Personally, I have longed for Madonna to revisit her early sound with a modern twist, but it seems she has disregarded my advice. However, she has the potential to achieve the elusive middle-aged global #1 hit that brought Cher back to the top of the pop charts in 1998. Perhaps she will surprise us after all. Moving on to Rihanna, her contribution to the Wakanda Forever theme song was forgettable, similar to Beyoncé's delivery for Lion King. However, with her upcoming performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, new music is likely on the horizon. Let's hope it doesn't resemble "Lift Me Up" from her forthcoming album. Regarding Janet, most of the buzz revolves around her tour, though she did mention that new music is in the works. While I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, I remain doubtful. In 2023, Latino music has had a significant impact, transcending barriers and achieving tremendous crossover success across the Americas. This wave is even more substantial than the explosion of Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, and Shakira from 1999 to 2001. The remarkable aspect is that most of these artists are accomplishing this while singing in their native language, marking a major milestone. Remixes ranging from Big Room to House Music perfectly complement their songs. Party Favorz eagerly anticipates more from these artists,

Rest assured, this compilation includes an array of songs from various sub-genres of dance music - House Music, Tech House, Future House, Progressive House, NuDisco, to name a few. Featuring songs from top artists like Beyonce, Tiesto, Alok, Sigala, David Guetta, and more, this compilation is a testament to the resilience and vibrancy of the dance music scene in 2022. Each song in this list has left an indelible mark on the dance music scene and continues to thrill listeners on the dance floor. Whether it's Beyonce's soulful "Break My Soul" or Tiesto's catchy "Money," each track in this compilation offers a unique vibe that adds to the diverse and dynamic nature of dance music. Other standout tracks include "Love Is Gone" by SLANDER, "I Was Made For Lovin' You" by Oliver Heldens, "About Damn Time" by Lizzo, and the list goes on. These tracks capture the energy and euphoria associated with dance music, creating an intoxicating blend of beats and rhythms that never fail to get people moving. Despite the ongoing pandemic and the subsequent repercussions on various music industries, especially the dance music industry, Party Favorz continues to be a beacon of hope for the fans of the dance music genre. Our commitment to curate and compile the best dance songs has remained steadfast. While most charts have lost their relevance due to shifts in the music industry, we've managed to keep our finger on the pulse of the dance music scene. Over the past 15 years, Party Favorz has offered the most comprehensive picture of the biggest dance songs of any given year, dating back to 1999. We delve into various facets of dance music, ensuring no underground hit, fan favorite, or chart-topper is left behind. Our compilation includes bootleg remixes of popular songs that were not originally meant for the dance floor but gained traction in clubs due to their popularity on radio or streaming platforms. The dance music landscape has shifted significantly. Most record labels no longer see the need to hire professional DJs to remix their pop releases. Instead, they rely on bedroom DJs and budding producers to do the work for them. You can't put a price on that kind of publicity, and it comes at no cost to the labels. Moreover, independent releases and collaborations with professional remix outlets like Tiesto have led to the creation of many dance hits. The likes of David Guetta have remained relevant as artists continue to seek their expertise in crafting dance hits that transcend the club scene to gain popularity on radio and streaming platforms,

Our selection process for our Year's Best Dance Tracks involves meticulous research and collaboration with two DJ promotional sources, for both official remixes and unofficial bootlegs and mashups. We partner with various labels and DJs and utilize platforms such as Beatport, Traxsource, and Bandcamp to find the best beats that might not be available through traditional channels. Moreover, we keep an eye on SoundCloud to discover promising new DJ talents. Despite the thoroughness of our process, it's inevitable that some gems will slip through. In 2023, we missed out on a few fantastic tracks. The list includes "Gold" by Austin Millz & Aluna, a track we cannot praise enough; "Sunshine" by Fat Joe, DJ Khaled & Amorphous, and "Please", the final release from Jessie Ware's highly acclaimed 2020 album "What's Your Pleasure?". Ware's departure from her usual melancholic vibe towards a more positive, Disco-themed album resonated with many listeners, notably following Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia". Every year, Party Favorz puts together the Top Dance Songs compilation. The list includes remixed pop hits, club-worthy tracks, and standard EDM tracks that might not be commonly played on the radio but have made their mark in the niche, with substantial impact on streaming platforms and YouTube. In the dance music landscape, 2021 mirrored the trends of 2020, with Future House, Tech House, and NuDisco persistently dominating the scene, reinforcing their catchy beats into our collective musical psyche. The year 2021 marked the emergence of a new wave of DJs making significant strides. Among them, Chicago's John Summit took center stage with his profound deep house vibes resonating with a wide audience. His popular tracks such as "Sun Came Up" (in collaboration with Sofi Tukker), "Better Than This" (with Parachute Youth), and "Human" (with Echoes) propelled him into stardom, while he still maintained the charm of his 2020 hits "Deep End" and "Thin Line" (with Guz). Another standout artist was Brazil's Vintage Culture (Lukas Rafael Ruiz Hespanhol), who has been in the scene for a bit longer. After achieving a #1 Billboard Dance Club hit "In The Dark" (with Fancy Inc.) in 2019, Vintage Culture became a sought-after name for remix productions. In 2021, he remixed multiple hits including "Love Tonight" by Shouse, "Talamanca" by Burns, "Let It Go" by Louie Vega & The Martinez Brothers and Marc E. Bassy, and "Paradise" by Meduza and Dermot Kennedy. 2021 witnessed the remarkable rise of Joel Corry, who is swiftly occupying the position once dominated by Calvin Harris. Following a #6 hit in the UK with "Sorry" in 2019, he ascended further with #4 "Lonely" and #1 "Head & Heart" with MNEK in 2020, the latter being his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. Corry remixed numerous tracks in 2021, including the top hits "Bad Habits" by Ed Sheeran, "Tick Tock" by Clean Bandit, "Body" by Megan Thee Stallion, "Out Out" with Jax Jones, and "Feeling Good" by the late Nina Simone. His collaboration on "Bed" with David Guetta and Raye was among the top dance songs of 2021. We predict both Corry and Summit will continue to make waves in 2022. Keep your eyes peeled for the third and final volume of our Top Dance Songs of 2021, set to be released this coming Sunday. Follow us to be the first to know when it drops. Until then...ENJOY! This final volume has a more laidback feel overall and that's because many of the tracks included in these sets are pop hits that were never intended for the dance floor. Nevertheless, the songs are culturally important and resonate with so many people that it's inevitable the label either commissions official remixes or aspiring DJ/producers remix the tracks for their own sets. You'd think that with everything on lockdown, there wouldn't be that much great dance club music but far from it. That's not to say that there was as much during the second half of the year but we still had more than enough to fill our typical three-volume year-end series. If anything positive came out of 2020 — it would be musical styles in popular and dance music have started to give way to more diversity in their offerings. I realize that many of the songs in this series rely heavily on a formulaic Future House sound and the likes of Joel Corry, J Bruus, Colin Jay, Cosmic Dawn, Division 4 & Matt Consola, Ray Isaac, and Charlie Lane have perfected that sound but to their credit — they're serving up dance floor earworms for tracks that otherwise would never get remixed. Probably one of the most exciting remixes this year was for WAP by DJ Ranny. Yes, there were several unofficial remixes out there but none added to the excitement and party nature of the song. When Ranny sent his take over — I was bowled over as I immediately knew he hit a home run! It's a shame it couldn't have been enjoyed more on dance floors across the globe because it was a surefire winner. I think Dua Lipa tapped into something with the direction of music by digging into the 70s Disco, 80s Dance, and 90s House Music to create a feel-good escape on her sophomore effort "Future Nostalgia." Doja Cat equally did a great job of keeping our heads nodding to a slinky disco beat. Don't be surprised if Madonna finally — after all these years of begging her — goes back to her roots and delivers a carefree album that taps into the energy of her debut album. I'll lay down good money on it. In the interim, I hope everyone is enjoying this mega time capsule of the year 2020 with all the good, bad and ugly this year will be known for decades to come. We have one more set to close the year out and I'll do my best to make it one roof-raising floor scorcher for all my party people. Until then...ENJOY! Party Favorz is back with volume two of the Top Dance Songs of 2020 and this one digs deeper. One of the constraints of 2020 is the pandemic resulted in clubs and venues shutting down. Billboard's Dance Club chart is based on select DJ responses to track and create that chart and without input — the chart was suspended in March. "Love Hangover 2020" by Diana Ross was the last song to top that chart back in March before its demise. Leave it to the queen to have the last word. While I use charts as a basis for compiling my year-end sets — they aren't the final word; rather a guide. Usually, I use a variety of charts that differ significantly like Billboard's Dance Club, Electronic Dance Music, and Top 100 charts to compile these sets. This year, I added Beatport, Spotify, and YouTube streams as a basis for making my decisions on what's included in the Top Dance Songs of 2020. There is some consistency in that they all tend to agree on the top 10 - 20 songs but differ wildly from there. "Roses" by SAINt JHN (Imanbek Remix) has topped everyone's list. But, "Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, "ily" by surf mesa featuring Emilee, "Ride It." by Regard, "Breaking Me" by Topic & A7S, "Higher Love" by Kygo and Whitney Houston, "Head & Heart" by Joel Corry X MNEK, "Secrets" by Regard & RAYE, and "Don't Stop Now" by Dua Lipa have been fairly consistent on most of their year-end charts. From there, everything wildly differs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zToEPpFEN8 That's where YouTube comes into play. I look at the total number of views for videos and then cross reference the charts to base my decisions. Everyone can reasonably disagree on the inclusion of certain songs but Party Favorz attempts to hit all the high notes of the year as long as they had a certain amount of impact on the listener. That and my personal favorites will always be included. You'll also notice some carryover from 2019. Songs that were massive the previous year that continued to chart and were in heavy rotation on radio or in the clubs (for a while) and songs that were released in late 2019 but hadn't peaked until the next year but already had enough impact to be included on both year-end charts. Ultimately, I decide what gets included and frankly, you won't find a more comprehensive compilation for any given year in dance music than Party Favorz. My goal is to provide you with a soundtrack to your life at any given moment in time the Top Dance Songs of 2020 is the defenitive time capsule. As a result, I always recommend you download and store these sets because 10 - 20 years from now, you'll be glad you did.

This series features the biggest dance hits of the year and this year starts to shake things up. Not since 2015 has the Top Dance Songs of the Year been this diverse in its offerings. The entire dance music scene is finally beginning to shake loose from its tight-knit structure to more loosely reflect a wider variety of genres. Nowhere is this evident than in the resurgence of Disco. That's not to say that Disco music was the end-all this year but its reemergence hit at the right time. The 1970s and early 80s were considered a time of decadence and escapism from a downtrodden economy, long gas lines, and high unemployment, and Disco was the perfect escape to ease people's anxiety. Enter stage left Dua Lipa. It's been said that Dua Lipa's sophomore effort "Future Nostalgia" was an iffy proposition for the young singer as it didn't fit in with what was being played on radio. However, she wasn't interested in making another "New Rules" set of songs and just wanted to make people feel good. After a live session was leaked online, she was forced to release the album earlier than the original pushed-back timetable due to Covid. The gamble paid off in a BIG way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oygrmJFKYZY "Future Nostalgia" received rave reviews (even from this writer) and was an uplifting breath of fresh air at a time when everyone had gone into lockdown. In short, it was just what the doctor ordered. Now she's received a record six nominations for "Don't Start Now" and "Future Nostalgia" — the gamble has paid off. Equally exciting is the continued acceleration of DJ and music producer Purple Disco Machine. Party Favorz has been excited about the German native's work and featured him in a Legacy series because it was evident the man was going places. As usual, I was right because he's literally been all over the place in 2020 and is now branching out. He features prominently in the Top Dances Songs of 2020 and the future looks bright for PDM and Party Favorz looks forward to the continued promotion of his work. In the next installment, I'll discuss the darker side of the year's biggest dance hits as well as the daunting task of compiling all the tracks that round out this set. I'm in a bit of a rushed mood to get these out in time. It took a week to pull everything together and then narrow down the tracks that would be used. However, it took one day to put this first set together, and should be smooth sailing from here on out. I'll be back on Saturday with volume 2 of the Top Songs of 2020. Until then...

THE EMO-FICATION OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC With few exceptions and the trend to a happier Disco sound as discussed in Volume 1 of this year's recap — the overall feel in electronic and club music is generally fairly dark. A lot of the music has been emofied even when its original format is aimed at the dance floor. The biggest artist of the year Post Malone has made an entire career out of it. With one of Malone's biggest hits "Circles" capping off the end of this set — it pretty much sums up the entire genre. There's nothing wrong with that and the moodiness of much of the music squares well with the current generation that's growing up in a tumultuous time. That's not to say any of these songs are political — because they aren't. The very issues that affect the mood and mindset of the current generation like gun control, global warming, student debt, ongoing wars, racism, and on and on are sadly missing in today's music. From the Boomer rebellion of the 60s to the GenX political activism of Punk Rock, New Wave, and Alternative Rock from the 80s and 90s — the very issues that stress the current generation of Millennials and GenZ are sorely missing. Instead, everything is about feelings and relationships. This isn't meant to be interpreted as criticism but merely an observation. We know you guys give a shit about these things - so bare your soul in the music and frankly open it up to true Rock 'N' Roll again. More than anything, it's the big corporate labels that need to get with the program because I'm banking there's a massive underground market somewhere waiting to be exploited. Granted, there's always room for all types of genres and styles from silly love songs, and personal testimonies to fun carefree disco and political discourse in our music. They just haven't figured out how to make it work because the music industry as a whole, is run by a bunch of mindless clone machines. I digress. IT'S ALL ABOUT DANCE MUSIC If you haven't figured it out yet, Party Favorz (more specifically me writing in the 3rd person), is a walking encyclopedia of popular music. I've devoured it ever since I was a kid.  As you well know — Party Favorz is about escapism and having a good time. It's about perking you up during those long commutes to and from work, it fuels your workouts, it's the soundtrack to your pool parties and gatherings with friends and it's likely the thing that gets you pumped while getting ready to go out for a night on the town. If you've found other creative ways to make use of these mixes...

Even with the shifting genre tides in dance music, there's always room for some darker songs that break through and become monster hits in their own right. FISHER's surprise hit "Losing It" was released in July 2018 and then had a steady rise to the top of Beatport's dance charts where it ruled for over a month. Shortly after — it made a steady climb up Billboard's Dance Club charts finally nesting the number one spot last year. Spurring a mass amount of mashups and bootlegs, the song was so popular — it ranked again as one of the top tracks for 2019.  It was an unlikely candidate for such a monster hit but the infectious deep beats and repetitive refrain just stuck to our brains like super glue. FISHER followed that up with the equally dark "You Little Beauty" which samples (once again) the fabulous Loleatta Holloway making it his second #1 dance club hit. You could say he's had a very good year and a half. One of the most mesmerizing and infectious dark tracks of the year is "Piece Of Your Heart" by Meduza featuring Goodboys. This song is an earworm that burrows into your brain and takes up residence while on repeat. Meduza followed up this monster hit with the same song but this time featuring the added vocals of Becky Hill in a reworked version called "Lose Control." That version also topped the charts later in the year. I'm not certain, but this may be the first time two different versions of the same song topped any chart — but, I could be wrong. HOT DANCE ELECTRONIC SONGS The artwork for volume two of the Year In Dance features the top Hot Dance Electronic Songs Artists. This is a chart that I only muse with passing interest as it usually has some overlap with the Dance Club charts but is geared more towards streaming, and YouTube streams than anything else to compile its listings. Billboard has multiple sub-category charts under this, which frankly is redundant. This particular chart is important in that it features top songs that fare poorly on the Dance Club chart but often have more uptempo House versions that accompany them. Marshmello appears to hit all the charts (including Top 40), while The Chainsmokers frat boy electronic dance music generally rules this chart, sometimes Top 40 but not Dance Club. The chart itself is often stale and lists songs that are over a year old — generally because of their ongoing streaming numbers. Since a few of the Top 10 artists in this category never crossed over to Dance Club or were riding high from last year's releases — I threw out three of them and pi...

In deciding what makes the cut, Party Favorz pulls from Billboard's Year-End charts in Dance Club Songs, Hot Dance Electronic Songs, Hot 100 Songs, and I pull several of my personal favorites from the year that deserve to be included. Billboard allots points to songs based on the number of weeks they remain on their charts. Typically, it's one point a week, bonus points for entering the Top 10, and then they're assigned higher point values for each position they hold in the Top 10. It's entirely possible that a song that never even hits the top of any of their charts still ranks high for the year due to longevity on the charts. Much like the Academy Awards, there's a cut-off date at the end of November of each year. Because Party Favorz understands people's memories align with when a song is getting heavy rotation in clubs or dance radio, we also pull from the charts leading up to the last week before Christmas. For instance, Tiesto & Mabel's "God Is a Dancer" just hit the top spot today and is included. As a result, you'll likely notice the same songs hit our year-end retrospectives two years in a row. Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" was so massively popular that it generated ongoing club and radio play through the first half of 2019 despite peaking in 2018. Other tracks that are included are massive songs on the Hot 100 that may or may not even chart on the Dance Club chart but are so popular — they generate a plethora of authorized and bootleg remixes. It would be blasphemous to leave these tracks out because of the demand for them on dance floors and the overall impact they have on popular culture. If we're going to paint a complete picture, their inclusion is mandatory. DANCE CLUB ARTISTS OF THE YEAR Speaking of Ariana Grande, she was the top Dance Club artist of the year. The top 10 Dance Club artists are featured as the cover art for this first volume. they feature, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Madonna, Kendra Erika, Ava Max, Mark Ronson, Bleona, Fisher, and P!nk. I disagree with two of them, but points gave them that position so who am I to argue? HOW THIS PODCAST STARTED Party Favorz started right at the time the presidential elections began to heat up as Democrats narrowed their choices down to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards in 2007. Three elections and two presidents later, we're still here right after the impeachment of (not my president) Trump. During this period, Party Favorz has been part of the revolution in technology like gigabit internet, the iPhone,

This year marked a resurgence of Legacy artists, who contributed some of the most memorable dance club hits and carved a niche on our list of Top Dance Songs of 2018. Prominent artists like Toni Braxton, Barbara Tucker, Crystal Waters, Donna Summer, and Diana Ross were particularly influential. Diana Ross's spectacular performance saw her clinching two number-one spots on the dance charts. However, our final selection of Top Dance Songs of 2018 included only her melodious rendition of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", while her "I'm Coming Out/Upside Down" medley, despite its conceptual appeal, was omitted due to less-than-stellar execution. The year 2018 wasn't just about well-established names, though. Several artists like Dua Lipa, Cardi B, and Camila Cabello, who had broken into the limelight the previous year, continued to enjoy significant success. However, the year didn't birth any major new talents. While Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato had their fair share of successful releases, on the whole, the year's offerings were somewhat underwhelming. The true heroes of the Top Dance Songs of 2018 were the DJs. Veterans like Eric Kupper, MK, StoneBridge, Barry Harris, and Dave Aude ensured dance music enthusiasts had plenty to groove to. David Guetta, now a legend in the industry, released a series of successful tracks that year. Similarly, Tiesto continued to demonstrate his relentless creativity and passion for music. However, the Top Dance Songs of 2018 also had fresh names asserting their presence. Jonas Blue, Marshmello, and Zedd made people around the world move to their infectious beats, with Zedd claiming the coveted title of 'Song of the Year' with his hit "The Middle". Another promising talent, Purple Disco Machine, was the harbinger of a potential modern-day disco revival. Calvin Harris, one of the most prodigious artists in the industry, perfectly encapsulated the state of EDM in 2018. Responding to a fan's query about his return to EDM, Harris stated, "EDM has been sad, slow songs for years now, doesn't have anything in common with the music I love to make. 2010-2014 EDM was more house-influenced to me. Anyway now I’m out the bubble and making big records with amazing singers that sound like house music to me." The essence of his statement reflects the evolution of dance music since its inception in the late '70s. Despite the rise of genres like Reggaeton, Moonbatan, and Trap, many music lovers still crave the energetic, uplifting music that inspires them to dance – the kind ...

Party Favorz is taking you on a trip down memory lane, recalling the unforgettable hits that dominated the dance music scene. Party 2 of our year-end dance retrospective further enhances this musical extravaganza by including more of the year's most influential club hits! A curious query arose from one of our followers recently regarding the usage of radio edits in our mixes. The response, initially simplistic, turned out to be more complex than a straightforward 'yes' or 'no'. The reality lies somewhere in the middle, so let's dive deeper. In the era of streaming services, dance music, like most genres, is becoming increasingly influenced by this shift, especially by platforms like Spotify. This trend arguably took root in 2009 when Mariah Carey's album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel", was extensively remixed by Jump Smokers, leading to a collection of dance radio edits rather than full-length dance tracks. While these tracks were not DJ-friendly, it signaled the beginning of a trend for shorter, more condensed "dance remixes". As we fast forward to the year 2018, a significant proportion of remixes adopted this shorter format. The reason? Streaming platforms operate in a similar vein to traditional radio stations, providing on-demand music without the ads, and they favor quick, accessible listens before moving onto the next track. Extended intros and outros don't fit this model, and hence the shift towards more condensed tracks. This evolution posed a challenge for DJs, stuck between delivering popular songs and preserving the art of mixing. The solution is a delicate balance, combining the shorter edits with longer dance remixes to maintain a seamless flow. Although this approach might dampen the traditional joy of mixing, it offers a practical way forward, especially for the future of remixing like on the Top Dance Songs of 2018. This shift towards 'Spotify-ready' music is not universal, however. Genres like Tech House, Funky House, and Circuit-Tribal music still release full-length dance tracks. Another interesting trend observed in 2018 was the emergence of labels focused on producing dance music tailored for streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. Their business model is based on the number of streams generated rather than music sales. This approach has led to the creation of some excellent dance tracks that, sadly, may never grace club DJ decks, despite being included in the list of Top Dance Songs of 2018. Despite these developments, platforms like Spotify still restrict the inclusion of dance music podcasts,

For newcomers to this series, the Top Dance Songs of the Year is a compilation of the biggest dance songs from various music spectrums from the preceding year. Party Favorz curates this unique collection, amalgamating tracks from Billboard's Year-End Charts for Dance Club Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, and remixed versions from the Hot 100 Songs that typically don't chart. We also include personal favorites that have left a significant impression over the year. Previously, Beatport charts were used for this process, but they seem to have discontinued their year-end summaries. Reflecting on the year, 2018 did not leave an indelible mark in the dance music scene as one might have hoped. A considerable fraction of the year's top dance hits actually peaked in 2017, hence the Top Dance Songs of 2018 list includes tracks from the previous year as well. Iconic examples like "Something Just Like This" by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay, "Silence" by Marshmello featuring Khalid, "It Ain't Me" by Kygo x Selena Gomez appear on the year-end charts, suggesting that the new releases perhaps lacked the resonant appeal of their predecessors. Looking at the broader trend, dance music seemed to lean heavily on trends that have already reached their zenith of popularity. From the Deep House frenzy of 2015 evolving into Future House and anthemic tunes, to the current fascination with Moombahton's slow, rolling beats — a style rooted in Latinx music, dance music trends of 2018 seem to lack originality. Even Reggaeton and Trap music, once fresh and exciting, now seem to have overstayed their welcome, with little indication of what the next big trend could be. As we take stock of the Top Dance Songs of 2018, it's clear that the music industry needs to address some systemic issues. Billboard's charts, for instance, require a revamp to avoid single artists monopolizing chart positions with album releases, a phenomenon exacerbated by the inclusion of streaming service data. This over-saturation dilutes the diversity and quality of charting music. Despite these challenges, dance music in 2018 wasn't entirely without merit. The underground scene continues to thrive and there's an increasing yearning for a resurgence of Disco (NuDisco) and Funk. Given the tumultuous and uncertain times we live in, these feel-good genres could provide the much-needed escape and joy we all crave. As we look ahead, we'll explore the 'Spotification' of dance music in our next piece, followed by a deep dive into the key DJs/Produ...

We focus on songs that hold significance in the evolving landscape of dance music, both within mainstream pop culture and the vibrant underground dance music scene. These are the tracks that have been championed by the most influential DJs, from professional pioneers to ambitious amateurs, who have left indelible marks on the electronic dance music landscape. The Top Dance Songs of the Year series took root in 2007, coinciding with the launch of this blog. However, our passion for dance music drove us to delve even further into the past, leading to the creation of compilations dating back an additional decade. Each annual collection, comprising 3-5 comprehensive sets, is a time capsule of the dance music trends and hits of that year. We strongly advise storing the compilations that best mirror your personal dance music journey. In 10 - 20 years, these collections could serve as invaluable musical memoirs of your past. Our expansive content library here at Party Favorz occasionally prompts us to randomly revisit older material from our current Top 20. As a morning person, I recently queued up Top Dance Songs of 2014 Volume 1 on a car drive, allowing the rhythms of the past to accompany my wait for the day's news shows. The trip down memory lane was a delightful reminder of how enduring these tracks truly are. Whether you follow this suggestion or not is entirely your choice but you can thank me later. Currently, I am refining our ultimate year-end New Year dance party mix, Blow Your Own Horn, to ensure it hits all the right notes. With three different versions already in the works, the final output may well be a fusion of the best elements from each. Anticipate an early release, allowing me some respite to regain a sense of normality as the year draws to a close. The exploration of the Top Dance Songs of 2017 seems to have resonated with you, as reflected in the encouraging response we've received. We'll be back in a week or so with the final dance music extravaganza of the year. Until then... ENJOY! Despite any prior skepticism about the dance music landscape this year, it brought to the forefront an array of musical masterpieces. Many songs, predominantly from the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) genre, were beautifully transformed by remixes that elevated their original's charm, expanding their reach and longevity in the dance music arena. Standout examples include Dua Lipa's "Be the One," Rihanna's "Love On the Brain," and the superb collaboration of Flume and Tove Lo's "Say It," alongside a personal favorite, "Issues" by Julia Michaels. 2017 introduced us to a wave of promising new artists contributing to the Top Dance Songs of 2017, their longevity and impact yet to be fully assessed. At the forefront was Dua Lipa, who soared to stardom backed by Warner Brothers, becoming an absolute sensation with her stunning looks, captivating vocals, and compelling lyrics. Similarly, Julia Michaels showed immense promise, especially with her standout track "Issues," potentially giving the likes of Ellie Goulding serious competition in the future. Other artists who proved their mettle outside their multi-platinum bands were Niall Horan, with hits like "This Town," "Slow Hands" and Camila Cabello, with tracks "Crying in the Club," "Havana". However, for debut artists like Cardi B. ("Bodak Yellow") and Luis Fonsi ("Despacito"), whose first singles were chartbusters, maintaining that level of success could prove challenging. We also extend our hearty applause to Kesha, who with the release of her album "Rainbow", apart from Dr. Luke, demonstrated her raw talent and versatility as an artist. Her Grammy nominations for Best Pop Solo Album and Best Pop Solo Performance are well-deserved. There's so much to cover when discussing the Top Dance Songs of 2017, but to avoid overloading you with information, we'll reserve more insights for our next installment. Stay tuned for the third part of the Top Dance Songs of 2017 coming this Friday. Until then...ENJOY! The compilation isn't just focused on chart successes, but also looks into tunes gaining popularity with DJs and our personal favorites. Despite the diverse spectrum of house music styles, the broader EDM scene has been relatively static in recent years. There's a sense of déjà vu; first, it was the commercial exploitation of Deep House around 2015, which later morphed into Future House, leaving Deep House to retreat back into its tranquil, melodic roots. Concurrently, the Big Room Anthems or EDM with its signature drops, popularized by the likes of Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Alesso, and David Guetta, became a trend. More recently, the Reggaeton sound, sparked off by Major Lazer & DJ Snake's mega hit "Lean On," has become the beat to chase. Interestingly, the pace of beats has slowed, and songs resemble radio edits more than extended plays, reflective of the dwindling attention spans of today's house music fans. A significant concern is the over-processing and manipulation of vocal tracks, often diminishing the natural talent of the singers. The industry's focus on quick returns rather than investing in artist growth is a significant issue today. Nevertheless, this compilation, Top Dance Songs of 2017, endeavors to sift through the music maze to present the crème de la crème or songs that personally resonate with dance music lovers. With over 200 songs to choose from, creating this compilation was no easy task. These next three episodes represent our picks for the best dance music of the year. Until the next time...ENJOY!
