She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from St. John Fisher University and a Masters of Science degree in School Counseling from Roberts Wesleyan College. She has completed a certificate of advanced study in Educational Leadership at Canisius College. Further, she is pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at D'Youville University. Brya is a NYS Certified School Counselor and Administrator, Licensed Minister, Life Coach, speaker, writer, business and brand strategist, Fashion Influencer, and business owner. In addition, she is the CEO of R + R (Restoring Relationships), a member of ForbesBLK, a member of Black Excellence Society (bes), a member of The Gathering Spot (TSG), a member of Black Christian Influencers (BCI), COO of BTP Accountability Partners, Founder of Black Educators Connect (BEC), and a Licensed Minister. Brya currently is the Director of Equity and Inclusion at the University of Rochester in the Simon Business School. Most importantly, Brya strongly believes in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Brya’s goal is to contribute to society by encouraging, empowering, and supporting individuals in both her professional and personal world. Carrington Brown is a Relationship Expert, Speaker, Author and Entrepreneur. As a transformational speaker and coach, Carrington travels the world inspiring and equipping individuals with the tools needed to create healthy and thriving relationships with the Source, Self and Someone else. Carrington has a mission for marriage and a gift for healing. As a Man of God, Carrington uses biblical principles paired with psychological techniques as the foundation of his work and mission to make the family dynamic normal and decrease the divorce rate. Carrington has worked with thousands of individuals from all over the globe assisting them with healing from past trauma, increasing in self-love, growing deeper in God and obtaining the tools needed to create the legacy changing marriage they all desire.  Carrington received his Bachelors of Science in Clinical Psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce where he also served as a starting athlete on the football team. He and his beautiful wife Ashley Brown also known as Ashley Empowers, reside in Dallas, Texas with their children. As a relationship expert, Carrington and his wife Ashley authored the book "Before The Next Step, Questions Before I Do", a book of over 300 questions to ask prior to saying “I Do”. In this episode we discuss restoration and healing with Dr. Gholnecsar (Gholdy) Muhammad, who is an Associate Professor of Literacy, Language, and Culture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She studies Black historical excellence within educational communities with goals of reframing curriculum and instruction today. Dr. Muhammad’s scholarship has appeared in leading academic journals and books, including Research in Teaching English, Urban Education, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Language Arts, and Written Communication. Some of her recognitions include the 2014 recipient of the National Council of Teachers of English, Promising New Researcher Award, the 2016 NCTE Janet Emig Award, the 2017 GSU Urban Education Research Award,  and the 2018 UICxpertise. Having served as a middle school teacher, literacy specialist, school district administrator, and school board president, gave Dr. Muhammad the experience to write the best-selling book Cultivating Genius: An Equity Model for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy. She also co-authored the book, Black girls’ literacies: An Edited Volume, published by Routledge. By working with teachers, leaders, parents, and youth across the United States and South Africa in best practices in culturally and historically responsive instruction, the Historically Responsive Literacy/Culturally & Historically based framework significantly influenced educational practice in 2021. About Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna: DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna, Ph.D. is the sixth president of Monroe Community College. Her professional experience in business, industry, and higher education spans more than three decades. Her leadership has served as a catalyst for equitable pathways to socioeconomic mobility for individuals in Michigan, Minnesota, and New York. Building on an educational foundation that includes degrees in computer information systems, business administration, and educational leadership, Dr. Burt-Nanna is recognized for advancing student success, innovation, operational efficiency, organizational culture change, and creating college-going cultures in communities where she has served. She is a passionate advocate for and a frequent speaker on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion; educational access and attainment; and workforce development at local, state, and national levels. She embraces opportunities to build early connections with faculty and staff in celebrating their work and strategically forms collaborative partnerships with educators and employers to transform lives and create opportunities through public higher education. Her impressive record of volunteerism, philanthropy, and board/council service ranges from the Community Foundation for Muskegon County in Michigan to the YWCA Mankato in Minnesota. Dr. Burt-Nanna currently serves on the board of directors for the League for Innovation in the Community College, Greater Rochester Enterprise, Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes Region. In addition to sitting on the executive board of the New York Community College Association of Presidents, she is an engaged member of the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council’s Executive Committee, serving as co-chair of the Council’s Workforce Development Work Group. She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her transformational leadership and has successfully secured grants and philanthropic support for the organizations she serves. About Janson D. McNair: Janson D. McNair became the director of the Office of Public Integrity in January 2021, after serving 25 years in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Director McNair retired from the Sheriff’s Office as Commander of the Staff Service Bureau. He served 4 years in the United States Army during Operation Desert Storm. Director McNair has extensive institutional knowledge of Monroe County government to supplement his career in the military and law enforcement.  He holds an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Monroe Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from SUNY Brockport, and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Keuka College.  Director McNair is a Certified Inspector General. He is also an active instructor with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, where he currently instructs Officer Wellness and Suicide Prevention. About Corey Scholes: Corey Scholes is an educator-in-residence for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, where she advises the Foundation on strategic program initiatives and opportunities related to education. One of her first major responsibilities at the Foundation was to help start the Ewing Marion Kauffman School, where she served as interim CEO during the school’s launch. She has also developed and executed the Foundation’s strategy around attracting, developing, and retaining talent in the education sector in Kansas City. Her team is responsible for bringing programs like City Year, KCTR, and Kansas City Plus to Kansas City to make the talent pipeline more robust and able to support the Foundation’s other K-12 investments. Scholes earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., and a Masters of Education in curriculum development from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. She holds a special education certificate from DePaul University and a supervision and administration certificate from National Lewis University.
